On January 29, 2013 through January 31, 2013 the Mutual Fund Directors Forum will hold the annual Directors’ Institute in Naples, Florida. The 2013 Directors’ Institute uses a case study to provide key opportunities to learn about and discuss the most important issues faced in the boardroom today. Directors will work in small groups to help participants understand the viewpoints of other professionals.
Among the issues the 2013 Directors’ Institute will address are: (1) board oversight of omnibus accounts and associated expenses; (2) oversight of funds employing “alternative” investment strategies; (3) the director’s role in influencing who the adviser retains as portfolio manager; (4) the use and misuse of benchmarks and peer groups in the oversight of performance and fees; (5) the director’s role in understanding the relationship between risk and performance; and (6) the impact of cost cutting and limited resources on both performance and compliance.
