SEC Amendments to Form 13F Are Now in Effect

Brief Introduction
The amendments for Form 13F announced in June 2022 have taken effect January 3rd, 2023.
The SEC made these amendments to require certain paper filings to be electronic, and to modernize/enhance the information reported on the form.
Who Is This Applicable To?
- RIAs
- Institutional Investment Managers
- Anyone who files or submit reports to the SEC on EDGAR or the IARD System
Important Reminders
- Electronic filing or submission will be required for:
- Applications for orders under Advisers Act on EDGAR
- Confidential treatment requests for Form 13F-CTR filings on EDGAR
- Must be filed as separate, nonpublic filing from a manager’s public Form 13-F
- Must include a confidential Form 13F report limited to the 13(f) securities holdings for which the manager is requesting confidential treatment.
- Form ADV-NR (through IARD System)
- Optional reporting of a FIGI for any security reported on Form 13F in addition to the mandatory CUSIP number.
- Form 13F-HR
- Managers are required to identify on the Summary Page if confidential treatment is being requested for some or all the holdings for the quarter-end period.
- Filer must provide CRD number and SEC file number (if any)
- Dollar values must be rounded to the nearest dollar (no longer nearest one thousand).
- No requirement to omit the “000” when reported.
- Form 13F-NT
- Managers must include the CRD number and SEC file number (if any) of any other manager included in the “list of other managers reporting for this manager” table on the cover page.

As these changes have gone into effect since January 3rd, this affects forms filed for the Q4 2022 deadline of February 14th, 2023.
Additionally, any amendments to previous quarters will include these requirements.
